Kim Shaw
For more than 20 years, Kim Shaw (she/her) has also worked as an independent artist under the name Kim Shaw Art. Her practice has included teaching workshops and private lessons, as well as completing commissioned work in painting and illustration. A former studio resident at the Jerico maker’s space in Kalamazoo’s Edison Neighborhood, she continues to paint and collaborate with fellow artists from her home studio.
Kim is a graduate of both Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College, holding degrees in Illustration and Studio Arts with concentrations in Art Education, Painting, and Expressive Arts Therapy. Kim is currently pursuing a MA in Expressive Arts Coaching and Community Building at the California Institute for Integral Studies.
Her work centers on fostering individual and community enrichment through creative process, collaboration, active art-making, and shared human experience. Across all of her artistic and professional endeavors, Kim strives to stay connected to contemporary artists, emerging ideas, and innovative partnerships. Social justice, equity, and restorative practices remain integral to her ongoing education and to the programming she cultivates within the community.
Kim is currently the Programs Director at the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo and teaches in the art department at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
